SHOW DETAILS
“Set in the legendary city during the roaring “jazz hot” 20s, Chicago tells the story of two rival vaudevillian murderesses locked up in Cook County Jail. Nightclub star Velma’s serving time for killing her husband and sister after finding the two in bed together. Driven chorus girl Roxie’s been tossed in the joint for bumping off the lover she’s been cheating on her husband with. Not one to rest on her laurels, Velma enlists the help of prison matron Mama Morton and slickster lawyer Billy Flynn, who turn Velma’s incarceration into a murder-of-the-week media frenzy, thus preparing the world for a splashy showbiz comeback. But Roxie’s got some of her own tricks up her sleeve…” (from broadway.com/shows/chicago/story)
AUDITION PROCESS
After choosing an audition time and completing the form below, we encourage you to take time to read through the resources below. We also recommend that you use the Audition Checklist to ensure you don’t miss anything!
-MUSIC: Please choose a selection from the musical cuts below. These same tracks will be used during auditions, as well.
-DANCE: Auditionees should be prepared to share a short dance sequence from Razzle Dazzle. The video shows choreography from measures 5-28 (conductor’s score)— please learn 8 measures of your choice from this sequence. We will also ask auditionees to share their unique movement style in the audition, specifically focusing on improvisation as a character and adding to/expanding on the style of the original sequence. You are invited to play within the structure of the choreography to show us your unique movement style and characterization of the choreography!
-ACTING: Please note that the first audition will only be song and dance. Sides from the script will be provided should you be invited to callbacks.
*If you are unable to make in-person auditions on February 17-19, we are accepting virtual submissions. Virtual submissions including a 16-32 bar vocal cut and dance submission should be emailed to betkapopeproductions@gmail.com no later than Wednesday, February 15th.
